Management of Abnormal Pap Smear

Checking Abnormal Cells On The Cervix

Cervical Cytology, also known as a Pap smear or Pap test is a test done to check for abnormal cells on the cervix (the opening to the womb).

The goal of Pap smear screening is to catch abnormal cells before they lead to cervical, vaginal or vulvar cancer. HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is the virus that causes the majority of abnormal Pap tests.

If your Pap smear is abnormal, further testing may be needed depending on your age and the condition identified.

Dr Swanson will clearly explain your options, and you can both decide which one is best for you.
